Research interests include HIV-1 Tat, a key regulatory protein mediating expression and replication of the viral genome, activates transcriptional elongation through P-TEFb recruitment and remodeling. To identify novel Tat-associated cellular factors that mediate changes in the P-TEFb complex and potentially uncover cellular proteins that interact independent of P-TEFb, affinity purified Tat-associated complexes expressed in cells and identified candidate proteins by mass spectrometry. Reciprocal pulldowns of affinity-tagged candidates have confirmed interactions with Tat. Ongoing studies are focused on investigating how these factors may affect transcriptional elongation and P-TEFb remodeling.
