Ian Burkhart

Ian Is an individual with tetraplegia due to a spinal cord injury in 2010, not being satisfied with the quality of life after rehabilitation Ian has been looking for more ways to become independent. He has participated in many clinical trials including the landmark trial "Restoring cortical control of functional movement in a human with quadriplegia" which used an implanted Brain-computer interface to control muscle stimulation of the forearm to restore hand movement. After the success of that trial, he is now working towards the translation of the technology to the home setting. He consults with many other medical device companies to help create solutions to improve the independence of individuals with mobility impairments. Ian also serves as a member of the Project Review Committee of the North America Spinal Cord Injury Consortium and is the President of the Ian Burkhart Foundation.
