Ben leads the Informatics Team at UNEP-WCMC as they deliver innovative tools for analysis and visualisation of complex ecosystem data. The team help to maintain a number of internationally important databases for the research and policy community such as the CITES Trade Database and the World Database on Protected Areas and provide ways to access and understand this data. Ben is an experienced software manager and CTO who has been working, primarily with tech start-ups, in London and Cambridge for the past fifteen years. He joined UNEP-WCMC in mid-2018 where his main technical interests lie in knowledge management, search and visualisation. His earlier background includes a PhD in Quantum Computing from Imperial London and a spell working as a consultant to blue-chip companies on information retrieval systems."
