Charge Ko Technologies is an energy startup that is making owning and operating electric vehicles and other battery-powered devices more convenient and affordable while transitioning Africa towards clean mobility and universal energy access. Africa has 1.08 Billion mobile phone users and of these, 400 Million access the internet using their phones. The Covid19 pandemic has led to 70% of mobile phone users spending more time on their phones and analysis of eight African markets by Cenfri found a 14% increase in online shopping and a 10% rise in usage of logistics platforms. In a McKinsey survey of consumers in key African economies during the crisis, over 30% said they were increasing their use of online and mobile banking tools. Despite the increased reliance on these devices for communication, essential services and entertainment all day, they have one fundamental flaw. Their short battery life creates the need to charge them at least twice a day. We are designing and deploying public pay per use phone charging stations. We are targeting locations including but not limited to transport hubs, restaurants, bars, hospitals and retail centres.
