Supramolecular Nanomaterials and Interfaces Laboratory (SuNMIL) Laboratory

SuNMIL (Supramolecular Nano-Materials and Interfaces Laboratory) is a group of researchers that combine multiple backgrounds and integrate various disciplines to create and investigate novel materials that tackle the experimental investigation of supramolecular interfaces.

Part of the mission of this group is to attempt to tackle great unresolved challenges for mankind. In particular, they focus on problems that plague under-developed or developing countries; for example, viral diseases. In recent years, they have developed a line of research on supramolecular approaches to design novel antivirals (Nature Materials ’18).

The Werner Siemens Foundation has given a major grant to the Supramolecular Nano-Materials and Interfaces Laboratory (SuNMIL), headed by Francesco Stellacci, within EPFL’s School of Engineering. His team, which is working on a compound that can block viral activity, hopes to make progress in the fight against SARS-CoV-2.
