Laboratory of Protein Design & Immunoengineering LPDI Laboratory

The research group at the LPDI is driven by the objective of expanding nature’s repertoire by designing novel functional proteins to be used for practical purposes such as therapeutics, vaccines, biosensors and others.
The broad vision for their research is to entail several layers of characterization on our newly designed proteins: in silico, in vitro and if applicable in vivo. To create novel functional proteins, the lab utilizes both computational and experimental strategies.

In relation to COVID-19, the group has been working on: Structure-based design of protein-based anti-virals and vaccines targeting SARS-CoV-2. This study aims to develop immunogenic compounds and proteins that could inhibit viral invasion, in order to help speed the discovery of a COVID-19 vaccine.
