Daejeon is the largest R & D cluster, and it has 30 government-funded research institutes, 19 universities, and 400 corporate affiliated research institutes. There are major policy institutions, such as Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, etc.
The costs of nearly 15% of the total annual R & D investment costs of Korea have been invested in Daejeon, and various projects, such as technical commercialization, promotion of research institute business, total design support, support for the provision of technological information and business exchange among companies, industry-academic joint technology development project, etc., are also under way.
Daejeon has been highly evaluated as a hub city for the 2011 International Science Business Belt, and it is located with the Institute for Basic Science as the center.
