Victoria University of Wellington has an AI team
including staff across the Engineering, Mathematics
and Computer Science faculties. The group conducts
research in machine learning, neural networks,
cognitive science and data mining led by Professor
Mengjie Zhang. Professor Zhang’s research centres
on developing Evolutionary Computation (EC)
and machine learning methods to solve real world
problems in the areas of engineering, manufacturing
and biology. His work includes developing new
algorithms for data mining and optimisation tasks,
developing computer vision applications for edge
detection, segmentation and object recognition,
and developing algorithms to create more effective
production scheduling and personnel rostering.
