NestSense Company
NestSense creates Safety solutions for managed dementia care.
From personal experience, they know how difficult it can be to care for a loved one with dementia. For families that do not qualify for Medicaid, the financial burden alone can be overwhelming. They strive to support dementia care by providing key safety functions for assisted living and skilled nursing communities providing memory care.
Alzheimer's disease is the 6th most common and single most expensive disease in the US. Our early-stage company NestSense, Inc is a spinoff from our research group in the Computer Science Department at UC Berkeley and part of the SkyDeck 2017 Spring cohort. They are developing computer-vision based safety technology for home and community Alzheimer's care, where falls are the leading cause of hospitalization. In our first pilot study, our technology showed an 80% reduction in the fall rate at one memory care community. They are now in the process of expanding this pilot study throughout Integral Senior Living, the 3rd largest senior living provider in California. they have support from the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, the University of California Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society, and the National Science Foundation.
