The St Vincent de Paul Society is an international Christian organisation that promotes the active person-to-person involvement of its members in acts of charity and service to those in need. Its objectives are the relief of poverty without differentiation on the grounds of race, colour, creed, or gender. The concept of need is broadly based, so visiting and helping the sick, the lonely, the disadvantaged, the neglected and the addicted from a large proportion of the Society's work. Its 16,000 annual volunteers annually carry out 1 million recorded visits in England and Wales.
