AHC Inc. (originally Arlington Housing Corp.) is a not-for-profit developer of affordable housing communities for low-income families and individuals in the mid-Atlantic region. We also create stability and opportunity through social services and year-round educational programs including After-School literacy activities, Teen Tutoring, College & Career prep, and a Summer Camp to prevent learning loss. All funds collected through the Combined Federal Campaign and other workplace campaigns are used for these Resident Services programs in Arlington.
Hardworking low-income workers including service people, teachers, police officers, and immigrants from many lands struggle to afford the skyrocketing cost of housing in the Washington metropolitan region. As it has for over 45 years, AHC dedicates its efforts to ensuring safe, decent affordable housing for all our neighbors. And because our community centers are located right in our apartment complexes, our education programs are an active, vibrant part of the communities we serve. AHC's programs focus primarily on helping children - all the way from elementary through high school - build the literacy and academic skills they need to achieve scholastic success. We believe the children and teens are the key to improving the future economic stability of the many families who live at our apartment communities.
With 30 years of experience, the Resident Services program’s consistency and stability really works. Year after year, all of the seniors in AHC's program graduate from high school, and the majority continue on to college - often the first in their families to achieve that milestone. Last year, AHC served over 3,000 children, teens and adults at least one time through the Resident Services program at six community centers. More than 200 children and teens attended our school year and summer programs on a daily basis. Based in Arlington, VA, AHC was founded in 1975 as Arlington Housing Corporation. Since then we have developed 53 apartment communities in the region serving more than 7,300 individuals and families.
